I lost a bet on Zion Williamson last night so I went to basketball reference. The NBA to save travel books the same opponent for two home games with one day in between. You would think they would want more than a few days before they see the same opponent again. Nope, they scheduled the New Orleans Pelicans to play the Suns on both the Dec 9 and 11 in New Orleans and then play them again on the road December 17th. I hate these clustered opponent games. The NBA has 30 teams. It's not the 1950's when there were 8 teams. It's not about rivalries either. The Suns and Pelicans aren't rivals. This might have made sense during Covid. The less travel the less chance for a player to contract Covid. You are supposed to make it hard for the visiting team to win. How does it hurt the visiting team if they get to settle in a hotel for 3 days. I want them to travel from city to city. This isn't the playoffs.
The only thing I hate worse than the NBA schedule is the NFL one where they backload divisional opponents. I understand that they want to create a chance for the team in the same division to catch up but this wasn't always done. If you are a fan of an NFC East team and you like to travel to games wouldn't you like to go on the road in December if your team played the Dolphins, Chargers or Rams. With the way the NFL has it set up now that won't happen. Who the hell wants to go to a game in Giants Stadium or Fed Ex Field in December. Two totally shitty stadiums. On the other hand if your team played at SoFi you might be able to spend several days in California. You could catch the Rose Bowl and your team playing the Chargers or Rams.
